Andy and Bobby Bones Join FOX Sports Radio

FOX Sports Radio is pleased to announce the addition of Bobby Bones and Andy Roddick to its formidable weekend lineup. Bones, host of the syndicated morning radio program The Bobby Bones Show, and Roddick, Grand-Slam tennis champion, will host a new Saturday afternoon program that will feature a mix of sports, pop culture and entertainment, in addition to interviews with top athletes and other celebrity guests. Originating from Austin, Texas, the program will begin on January 7, 2012 and will air from 1 – 4 p.m. ET/10 a.m. – 1 p.m. PT across the network in top markets including Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Phoenix.

Bones, whose morning show is rated number one in Austin, Texas and is nationally syndicated by Premiere Networks, and Roddick, who has won 30 career singles titles including the 2003 U.S. Open, are no strangers to working together. The long-time friends served as guest hosts on FOX Sports Radio this past summer, and Roddick has made numerous appearances on Bones’ morning show.

“I can’t wait to get paid to talk about sports, especially since Andy and I have been doing it for free for years,” Bones stated. “We’re pretty excited to get to use real microphones, and be heard by a real audience, on FOX Sports Radio!”

Roddick echoes his friend’s sentiment, “I couldn’t be more excited to join the FOX Sports Radio lineup. Hosting a radio program is something I’ve always wanted to do, and to have this opportunity with my close friend Bobby is truly amazing. We can’t wait to get started!”

“We are proud to bring the amazing talents of Bobby Bones and Andy Roddick into the FOX Sports Radio family,” stated Don Martin, Vice President/General Manager, FOX Sports Radio Network. “This unique duo will blow the minds of the sports talk radio audience.”

Andy Bows Out Against Murray

Andy was beaten in the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters on Thursday in Paris, losing to World No. 3 Andy Murray 6-2, 6-2.

Murray has been in a rich vein of form throughout the fall and went into the match on a 16-match winning streak. He did not let up in his 11th meeting with Andy, taking the first set in 31 minutes with two breaks of serve. He then pushed home his advantage, capitalising on Andy’s growing frustrations to break twice more in the second set and clinch victory in 61 minutes.

“If I’m not able to get my serve through the court or drive a ball deep to the corner and get rewarded for it, I’m going to struggle most times against Andy,” lamented Andy. “I was stuck between two decisions: stay back and play a cat and mouse game, which is tough, or try to force the issue. He’s really good at defending that. So as far as a decision making process went today, it wasn’t always an easy one for me.”

Andy finishes the 2011 season with a 34-16 match record. Remarkably, it is the first time since 2001 that he has finished outside the Top 10 of the South African Airways ATP Rankings. After a year tainted by injury setbacks, Andy confirmed he will be quickly back to work during the off season.

“I’ll start training quickly, probably within the next couple of days,” he said. “I probably won’t hit for a little while, but I do need to use this time wisely. I’m certainly not worn down from matches by any means. I just need to get in better shape as far as movement and kind of catch up a little bit.”

Andy Wins in Paris

Andy is through to the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters with a straight sets win over French wildcard, Julien Benneteau 6-4, 6-4.

The pair exchanged breaks in the first set, but at 5-4, with Benneteau serving to stay in the set, Andy was able to get the decisive break to take a one set lead.
Benneteau had a strong start to the second set, breaking Andy to lead 3-1. The momentum was short-lived though as Andy levelled at 3-3. The pair were tied until 5-4, where in a similar pattern to the first set, Andy upped the ante to create a break, and consequently, match point. At 30-40, Andy approached the net and clinched victory with a high backhand cross court volley.

Andy’s third round match on Thursday will be against either the number two seed, Andy Murray, or Jeremy Chardy.

Andy Ending Basel Run

Andy’s campaign at the Swiss Indoors Basel came to an end in Friday’s quarter-finals when he was beaten by four-time champion Roger Federer 6-3, 6-2.

The first set played out evenly until the eighth game, when Federer capitalized on a lack of first serves from Andy to convert his first break point of the match and take a 5-3 lead. He closed out the opener with a service hold to love, leaving Andy to rue a first serve percentage of just 47 per cent.

Andy was under pressure immediately in the second set and Federer broke down his defences to get an early break. The Swiss 16-time Grand Slam champion then broke Andy again in the seventh game as the American sprayed a forehand long, and served out victory in 64 minutes.

Andy now travels to Paris-Bercy for his final tournament of the season, the BNP Paribas Masters, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 indoor tournament. He is seeded No. 13 and after a first-round bye, will open against either Canadian Milos Raonic, whom he beat in the Memphis final in February, or Frenchman Julien Benneteau. Play gets underway in the French capital on Monday.
